PURPOSE: The Presiding Pastor represents the staff on the Vestry involving himself in the day to day decision making and ministry shaping of this executive committee.
OBJECTIVES:
Provide pastoral, scriptural counsel to the congregation’s executive leadership
To lead all staff members in understanding and applying themselves to their responsibilities in Christian ministry
To provide staff members personal counsel and serve as the advocate for the staff in leadership meetings
To set vision for the staff identifying and meeting collective and personal ministry opportunities
To lead the congregation to a fuller vision of ministry in the immediate community and throughout the world
To set a Christian example in faith, life, love and purity
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as an advisor for all Vestry meetings, Parish Council meetings and Congregational Assemblies, yet: will not vote in Council or committee meetings; as a male adult member of the congregation is permitted and encouraged to vote at its Assemblies
• Take the lead in preparing and presenting devotions and Bible/doctrinal studies for Vestry meetings, Council meetings and Congregational Assemblies
• Serve as a welcome, advisory member of any committee/ministry he so chooses or from who he accepts an invitation, although his attendance is not required at any so chosen committee’s meetings
• Meet regularly, as requested, with deacons, elders, staff members and other leaders to listen to their concerns and advise in planning and coordinating their area of ministry responsibility
• Work with the Vestry in assisting the Associate Presiding Deacon in developing and sustaining a statement of long range and short range planning and goals for all areas of the congregation's ministry
• Serve as pastoral advisor to and member of the Staff Care & Compensation Committee chaired by the Associate Presiding Deacon
• Conference weekly with the Vestry, carrying out all duties of Vestry members defined by the Articles and Bylaws
