Mrs. Barbara Lichtenauer
Grade K-2 Teacher Assistant
Miscellaneous Information:

Barbara grew up in Zion, Illinois and has lots of family in the area. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1988 and from Western Illinois University with a degree in Education in 1992.

From a very early age, Barbara knew she wanted to teach as she had a difficult start in education as a student herself. The instructors and specialists that she encountered encouraged and motivated her to want to help others learn with great confidence and success. When she was just thirteen years old, she talked her church's preschool Sunday School teacher into letting her teach that class for the summer. That whet her appetite for more teaching opportunities. Barbara has taught many different grade levels, in both public and private schools. Her first classroom, where she was the main teacher, was in Zion for a Pre-K 4 and afternoon Kindergarten class. Since then she has been a substitute for three different districts as well as a sub at Faith. These included Pre-K through high school levels. She has also spent a few years outside the classroom doing clerical, cafeteria and retail work.

Barbara married Jay Lichtenauer in 1997 at Faith Lutheran Church before the new building was built and the school took over the sanctuary. She has since volunteered in many capacities for both Faith School and Faith Church. Such things include helping with a church directory, teaching Sunday School, helping with VBS, Easter 4 Kids, Christmas 4 Kids, along with many years as the Extended Learning Aide and a substitute teacher.

Barbara and Jay have three children, all of whom have been confirmed and have graduated from Faith School: Ruth in 2012, Nora in 2014, and most recently Nathan in 2017. Their education at Faith is a firm foundation which has greatly benefited them. To extend their education in a Christ-based school, they have continued on to Shoreland Lutheran High School. Ruth graduated from Shoreland in 2016. She will be attending Iowa State University as a Sophomore this fall. Nora will be a Senior at Shoreland this year and Nathan will be a Freshman.

The Lichtenauer Family enjoys traveling to and exploring anything to do with history. They also like to tour caves, ride bicycles, visit amusement parks, learn at museums, hike up mountains, walk in forests, lay on beaches, play in oceans and lakes, eat ice cream from different places, and be with family.

In the 2017/2018 school year, Barbara is looking forward to serving Faith once again. This time in a new role - as the new teacher assistant for K-2. All three grades are very big learning years. There are lots of milestones and accomplishments to look forward to. Watching children grow in their intellectual and Bible knowledge along with seeing their budding faith grow and flourish is an exciting time. Barbara is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of that.
