Information: Stephen L. Schultz was born May 3 of 1955, in Pigeon, Michigan to parents Loran and Patricia Schultz. Steve’s father was a Lutheran elementary school teacher and principal, while his mother was a homemaker. Mr. Schultz is the oldest of six children. Steve’s father, now retired from ministry, lives in Wisconsin. Steve’s mother was called to her eternal home in December of 1994.

Growing up in a teacher’s household meant a number of childhood moves: Pigeon, Michigan (four years), Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin (eight years), Algoma, Wisconsin (five years), and finally, West Bend, Wisconsin. Mr. Schultz attended Lutheran elementary schools at Mt. Calvary and Algoma, Wisconsin. His high school years were divided between two WELS high schools: Manitowoc Lutheran and Winnebago Lutheran Academy of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin from which Steve graduated in 1973.

Mr. Schultz then enrolled at Dr. Martin Luther College of New Ulm, Minnesota. Prior to his senior year of college he was extended an "emergency call" to teach eighth grade at Immanuel Lutheran School in St. Paul, Minnesota. After returning to DMLC for his final year Steve graduated in June 1978.

During high school at Winnebago, Steve dated Carol Kaiser. They continued to date during college. Steve and Carol were wed on June 26, 1977. The first year of marriage was spent in New Ulm, Minnesota while Mr. Schultz finished his senior year at DMLC. Carol is a nurse (LPN) and works at an Aurora clinic in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Upon graduation from DMLC, Mr. Schultz was assigned to serve at St. Paul’s Lutheran School of Plymouth, Nebraska in 1978. He served as principal and teacher of grades five through eight. While living in Nebraska, Mr. Schultz took graduate credits from Wayne State University and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to obtain his Nebraska state teaching license.

In July 1983, Steve accepted a call to help start a new school in Chesaning, Michigan. He served as principal and teacher of grades six through eight. At Michigan’s Saginaw Valley State University Mr. Schultz studied and received his Master’s Degree in Elementary Teaching. After serving twelve years in Michigan, he accepted a call to St. John’s Lutheran School of Juneau, Wisconsin in July of 1995 where he taught and served as principal until accepting the call to serve as Faith’s Director of Christian Education, arriving in Antioch in July of 2006. As DCE he has been responsible not only for administrating Faith School but for all instructional ministry of the congregation for all ages.

Mr. Schultz has served the WELS for over twenty five years as a school counselor. During his service in Michigan he also served the Michigan District as chairman of the Central Michigan Principal’s Conference. He also served six years on the Michigan District WELS Commission for Communication on Financial Support, the last four as Commission chairman. Mr. Schultz also served a lengthy term on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Lutheran Institutional Ministries, Inc. based in Milwaukee and also on Board of Shoreland Lutheran High School. He currently chairs the local WELS School Principals’ Conference.

The Lord has blessed Steve and Carol with four children. Sons Aaron and Joshua are WELS pastors in Green Bay, Wisconsin and Saginaw, Michigan respectively. Daughter Angela and her husband reside in Florida after lengthy careers with the US military while Daughter Ruth and her husband reside in Chicago. Ask Steve about his grandchildren you will know immediately they bring abundant joy to their grandparent’s lives.

In recent weeks Mr. Schultz has announced his plans to step down from the DCE and Principal position at Faith but continue to serve Faith School as a classroom teacher into the future. The annual Spring planning cycle currently underway will determine Steve’s future assignment.
