PURPOSE: The Deacon of Evangelism shall develop and direct programs and all other efforts that foster personal evangelism through relationship building that directly connects members and non-members with the Word of God.
OBJECTIVES:
Engender a concern within the congregation for the plight of lost souls who don’t believe in the Savior
Engender a concern within the congregation for the plight of members who are straying from Word and sacrament
Develop and maintain strategies and instruments for initiating personal contact with the un-churched in the community
Assure the assimilation of all new members and visitors into the worship, fellowship, education and service structures of the congregation
Generate, guide and/or direct a systematic plan for congregational fellowship activities
Oversee all auxiliary organizations established by the congregation that specifically involve themselves in fellowship activities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Recruit and train members for service in the various evangelism activities of the congregation
* Maintain an information area near the church entrance that provides pamphlets and other information on Christianity and the congregation
* Recruit and lead the Shepherds for the visitation of newcomers to worship and recently inactive members
* Recruit and lead the Visiting Elders in the encouragement, guidance and Christian discipline of all adult members
* Recruit and lead a team of Evangelists, having the ability to specifically share law and gospel, who demonstrate
congregational interest in and attention to prospective members,
* Recruit and lead a team that produces “The Messenger” – a newsletter for non-members and inactive members
* Oversee and participate in the Adult Instruction Class program
* Initiate and maintain assimilation/mentoring program, including a system of interviews and sponsorship, for new
members from first contact through the first anniversary of membership
* Take the lead in the coordination of youth and adult recreational activities
* Partner with the Deacon of Special Ministries to develop and implement a plan to evangelize the un-churched confined in local institutions
* Recruit and supervise the Fellowship Committee (overseeing all fellowship and service efforts and organizations)
* Oversee and coordinate an annual schedule of fellowship and recreational events and meals
* Facilitate a process of policy development and compliance for all elements of ministry under his responsibility bringing forward all policy proposals he deems appropriate to the Parish Council for discussion and approval
* Lead the annual process of ministry and budget planning for evangelism and fellowship
* Furnish, when requested, all necessary records for the audit committee
* Prepare quarterly update reports for the Parish Council
* Prepare and present an annual report of activities to the Presiding Elder and the Presiding Elder’s Committee
